Sandwich spots open after dark

Despite the proliferation of sandwich shops in our area, it’s still surprisingly hard to find places open after 5 p.m. Here are a few more that are open after dark.

All Star Sandwich Bar

1245 Cambridge St., Cambridge, 617-868-3065,
www.allstarsandwichbar.com

This Inman Square sandie shop has a nearly cult-like following and serves workaday fare such as a

Cubano and tuna melt, but also features some new creations. If you’re adventurous, try the incendiary Atomic Meatloaf Meltdown.

Moody’s Falafel Palace

25 Central Square, Cambridge,
617-864-0827

A postage-stamp of a takeout shop just off the beaten path, Moody’s Falafel has been popular among the late-night crowd for decades. This spot is well known for shawarma wraps — lamb and beef are customer favorites — and vegetarian sandwich options, in addition to traditional Middle Eastern fare.

Parish Cafe

361 Boylston St., Back Bay, Boston, 617-247-4777

493 Massachusetts Ave., South End, Boston, 617-391-0501

For more than 20 years, Parish Cafe has featured a menu composed of sandwiches created by local chefs. Look for the Zuni Roll (a warm wrap with smoked turkey breast, cranberry-chipotle sauce, bacon, scallions, and dill Havarti cheese) and The Nebo (Italian tuna on good baguette with tapanade and aioli).

La Verdad Taqueria

1 Lansdowne St., Boston,
617-421-9595,

www.laverdadtaqueria.com

This Mexican restaurant in the shadow of Fenway Park has both a sit-down dining room and a small takeout counter open till 1 a.m. They’re well known for their tacos, but just as good are their tortas, Mexican sandwiches served on a substantial bun. Fillings include carne asada (grilled beef), chicken milanesa, and chile relleno.
